American Marketing Association Merchandise
07/2025
Context
As an active member of multiple campus organizations, I’ve gained experience designing merchandise that connects with students while staying true to brand identity. For the American Marketing Association (AMA), I created the 2025–26 merchandise collection. The goal was to promote the organization, generate funds through sales, and design something that felt both on-brand and stylish for SDSU students.
Challenges
The main challenge was balancing brand representation with student appeal. Our team wanted to avoid relying too much on SDSU imagery and instead focus on visuals that reflected AMA’s values in a modern, trend-driven way. It also took collaboration and multiple iterations to align my ideas with the president and vice president’s vision.
Process
I presented several design directions, including a beach-inspired graphic, two race car concepts with the slogan Accelerate Your Future, and an illustration of an SDSU building with the phrase Build Your Future. The board chose the building design because it best represented AMA’s mission of supporting students’ futures through networking and professional development. I designed it in Photoshop and InDesign, using a clean serif font, minimal colors, and subtle embroidered details for a timeless look. After several refinements, we selected a blue hoodie as the final product, which combined sophistication with broad student appeal.
Entrepreneurship Society Merchandise
Context
As part of the Entrepreneurship Society, I designed a custom T-shirt for the 2024–25 year. The goal was to reflect our space-themed branding while staying within budget and creating something members would be proud to wear.
Challenges
The main challenges were keeping production costs low by limiting colors, balancing different design ideas from the executive board, and working with a small organization that had outdated branding and an unclear design direction.
Process
I experimented with redesigning the logo and eventually created letters shaped from galaxies to tie into our theme. After several iterations and board feedback, we finalized a design that was bold, unique, and affordable. Members loved the result, and the shirt helped build a stronger sense of unity within the organization.
