Commemorative Pin

Context
The SDSU Housing executive director wanted a commemorative move-in pin for Fall 2025 that connected to a current pop culture moment. She chose the movie Wicked, and my task was to blend SDSU housing identity with symbolic references to the film. The pin was produced and worn by hundreds of staff members on move-in day, creating a lasting piece of SDSU housing history.

Challenges
The challenge was designing effectively at a very small scale while weaving together school branding and pop culture. I also needed to find the right symbol from the film that could connect to the idea of moving in and new beginnings.

Process
After sketching many concepts and researching the film, I landed on the hot air balloon, which represents change and traveling to new places. This tied directly to SDSU, where students arrive from 49 states and over 100 countries. I refined the design in Adobe Illustrator with clarity and simplicity in mind, ensuring it worked well at pin size. The final product was a meaningful design that connected staff, students, and the excitement of move-in day.
